TMJ & Jaw Pain Treatment in Milton
Clenching, clicking, jaw pain or headaches that start at the temples? Soma offers both RMT-led TMJ massage — including intra-oral techniques — and chiropractic care for the jaw and neck, under one roof.

Your jaw doesn't work alone.
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jaw to your skull, and it shares muscles and nerves with your head, face and neck. That's why jaw problems so often show up as headaches, ear fullness, facial tension or a stiff neck — and why treating the jaw alone isn't always enough.
At Soma, Sonia's TMJ massage works directly on the muscles that move and tighten the jaw, inside and outside the mouth. Dr. Marques looks at how the jaw, neck and posture work together. Many clients benefit from one; some do best with both.

When to see your dentist or doctor
TMJ problems are common and usually manageable, but some symptoms need a dentist, doctor or urgent care first:
- Your jaw is locked open or locked shut
- A sudden change in how your teeth fit together
- Jaw pain after a fall, blow to the face or accident
- Swelling, fever, or pain from a tooth or gum problem
- Jaw pain that comes with chest pain, shortness of breath or sweating — call 911
Your dentist is also the right person to ask about night guards for grinding. We're happy to work alongside your dental care.
Questions We Often Hear
What is TMJ massage?
TMJ massage is massage therapy focused on the muscles that move and tighten the jaw, along with the related muscles of the head, face, neck and shoulders. At Soma it includes a TMJ-focused assessment and can include intra-oral techniques.
What does intra-oral massage involve?
Some jaw muscles are easiest to reach from inside the mouth. With your consent, your RMT uses gloved hands to work gently on these muscles. It is always explained first, you stay in control, and it can be skipped if you prefer.
Should I see a massage therapist or a chiropractor for TMJ?
Massage therapy is often a good starting point when muscle tension, clenching or grinding are the main issues. Chiropractic care can help when the neck, posture or joint movement are also involved. At Soma you can have both, and your practitioners can coordinate your care with your permission.
Can TMJ treatment help with headaches and ear pain?
Jaw problems often contribute to tension headaches, temple pain and a feeling of fullness in the ears. Treating the jaw, neck and facial muscles may help ease these symptoms. Ear pain with fever or discharge should be checked by a doctor.
Do I need a referral from my dentist?
No. You can book TMJ massage or chiropractic care directly. Some insurance plans ask for a referral before they reimburse, so check your plan. If you are seeing a dentist for your jaw, we are happy to work alongside them.
Is TMJ treatment covered by insurance?
Most extended health plans cover massage therapy by a Registered Massage Therapist and chiropractic care. We offer direct billing depending on your provider, and receipts for reimbursement otherwise.
Insurance & Coverage
Most extended health plans cover massage therapy and chiropractic care. We offer direct billing depending on your provider's policy — just bring your insurance information to your first appointment. For clients without direct billing, we provide receipts you can submit for reimbursement.
